The Colorado Buffaloes got what was easily their biggest win of the season on Wednesday night when they defeated the No. 13 ranked Xavier Musketeers 68-66 at Coors Event Center.

This one came down to the wire. Colorado held a 2-point lead with the clock ticking down at the end of the game when Derrick White came up with a big blocked shot to preserve the victory.

The Buffs have rebounded nicely after falling to Colorado State earlier in the season by picking up back-to-back wins. Xavier, who started the season 7-0, has now lost its last two.

White led the way for the Buffs with 23 points. Xavier Johnson added 18 points and George King had 16 points and 10 rebounds. For Xavier, Trevon Blueitt scored 27 points, but it wasn’t enough for the Musketeers, who lost in the first ever meeting between these schools.

Colorado had a better shooting night from all over the court in this one, hitting nearly 45 percent of its shots while Xavier made just under 38 percent of its field goals. Colorado was also more efficient from three-point range and the foul line.

This game was tightly contested throughout. Xavier built a 9-point lead early in the second half, but the Buffs fought back and took the lead with just under nine minutes left to play. The game ended up coming down to the wire, where it was the play of King and White that allowed Colorado to survive a wild final sequence.

The Buffs improve to 7-2 on the year and will now head back on the road where they will face BYU this Saturday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. MST.
