CU Buffs men’s basketball: Julian Hammond is Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

The CU Buffs men’s basketball team just keeps winning. Julian Hammond III was award the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors. Hammond came off the bench on Sunday’s win over Washington to score 14 points on 5-for-7 field goals, in just 12 minutes of action. It was near perfection when he shot 4-for-4 from three point range. A season high for him. Earlier in the week against Washington State Julian played for 14 minutes getting 2 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, and 4 assists to help beat the Cougars 83-78. It was quite a stand out weekend for this stand out star.


Freshman K.J. Simpson was given the same honor back in November for Colorado, making it the second time this season the Buffaloes have gained respect from the Pac-12. Jabari Walker also won the award last season.

This Denver native who was averaging 7.8 minutes in eight appearances has unexpectedly increased his numbers and is a big reason why Colorado has won 11 games this season. Fellow Freshman K.J. Simpson was injured during the Washington State game and Hammond was clutch stepping up big for the Buffs, and surpassing all expectations this season.

CU Buffs men’s basketball will have its biggest test of the season this week when they take on the No. 6 Arizona Wildcats, where they will once again need stellar bench performances like Julian did last week to take down one of the best teams in the nation. Hammond averaging 8.8 minutes and 3.5 points on 10.5 minutes will look to rally off the bench once more, and bring some huge momentum back to Boulder. The game will air on FS1 at 9 p.m. and K0A 850 as well as 94.1 FM. Get ready Wildcat nation because this team is hot, and ready to climb the Pac-12 standings.
