Colorado has found their new receivers coach in Phil McGeoghan. We rumored and predicted this to happen, as he was the best man for the job. Karl Dorrell was able to pull out this big time hire. In a receiving core that badly needs a coach of the highest caliber. Phil comes in to a struggling offense to help turn this program around.
The former receivers coach for the Los Angeles Chargers who has coached alongside some of the best coaches in the national football league, and some of the best players. He has helped polished players like Keenan Allen, one of the NFL greats. Phil left the league in 2021, but now he is back coaching football in the power 5 and looks to bring Colorado back to the powerful forefront it used to be.
For all Buffs fans this a major hire. Last season was tough to watch. Knowing so much talent is in Colorado and not matching up with expectations was a tough pill to swallow. Brady Russell was the only player on the Buffs who had reached over 300 yards in receiving. They ranked 270th in passing yards per game this past season, which isn’t even good enough for a mediocre power 5 school. Nothing was falling for the Buffs. Good pass attempts resulted in drops, Colorado was not working together in a cohesive unit. With the right coach now, and the right mindset in a flock of players who want to be there and want to play hard for Colorado, the sun is finally shining brighter in Boulder.
Coach McGeoghan is very excited to be a part of Colorado, here were some words from the new coach:
"“I’m very excited about being reunited with coach Dorrell. I believe it’s always a goal in life to be able to work for people who know you, trust you, and know what you can bring to the table every day. So it will be a privilege to work for a man who has integrity like Karl, who is obviously very passionate about football. I love the state of Colorado, so to be reunited with a very special man, in a very exceptional place, to take on a job that I am really excited about doing, it’s going to special for our family.”“I’m very excited about being reunited with coach Dorrell. It is a privilege to have Coach McGeoghan on our side. The experience, the love for football, and the love, respect, and admiration all these coaches have for each other is something beautiful you find in only the most special teams. Head coach Karl Dorrell has put a coaching staff together that is perfect for the team he is trying to build. His methods and hires have been questioned by some fans, but when it all comes together I believe the Buffs are going to surprise all of college football, and themselves.
