It was another close and tough loss for the Colorado Buffaloes on Thursday night, when the Buffs fell 58-61 against the Trojans. It was the first for No. 16 USC since 2018.
Jabari Walker led the way for the Buffs with 13 points and 8 rebounds. But he let the ball slip away a few too many times to the Trojans. Evan Battey scored 10 points and 8 rebounds. Tristan da Silva joined in double digits too with 10 points.
Tad Boyle’s Buffs have now dropped to a 12-5 record, and a struggling 4-3 in the Pac-12 already. Colorado was leading most of the game until USC pulled away at the end, ripping this one away from Colorado to end a 7 game losing streak against the Buffaloes.
Chevez Goodwin was the one who led USC to this win with 14 points and 18 rebounds. A huge reason why the Trojans are now 15-2.
Head coach Tad Boyle took the blame for this loss once again. He thought he had prepared the team a lot better but the lack of production on the offensive boards he blamed on his players. They have to have more toughness, and on Thursday, the toughest team won.
The Buffs fought and battled but it just wasn’t enough at the 16th ranked Trojans outshot and outmatched Colorado. It was a tough lesson learned for the Buffs that no matter how good you’ve been this season, if you don’t give as much toughness and effort as the other team on the floor you can stand a good chance of losing.
Colorado goes on to play another L.A. team when No. 9 UCLA comes to town at the Events Center on Saturday evening. The Buffs are now 0-4 against ranked teams and look to break open on the win column in that stat and try to stop a number 10 team, and hopefully build their confidence back up and get on a winning streak.
