It’s crazy to think where Colorado Buffaloes basketball would be without McKinley Wright IV. The Colorado Buffaloes coaching staff and fans can thank Archie Miller for taking the job at Indiana, or else the Minnesota basketball product would’ve spent his college career at Dayton.

Tad Boyle and the Buffs certainly miss Wright and could’ve used his playmaking ability against the zone the Washington Huskies utilized Thursday night. The Buffs 16 turnovers were uncharacteristic of a team that Wright led, and there will be some growing pains with this young team this season.

Wright started all but one of his 131 games playing for the Buffs. Over his four seasons with the team, Kin averaged 14.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists. He was Mr. Do It All for Colorado. Even during his worst games scoring the ball, he always found his teammates and found a way to win.

As we all know, Wright went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft but found a home with his hometown Minnesota Timberwolves. He has appeared in three games for the Wolves this season, scoring five points in nine minutes of play.

Even though he’s not getting run with the big club, the point guard is making the most of his opportunity in the G-League for Minnesota’s affiliate the Iowa Wolves.

Iowa currently owns a record of 6-3 but are 4-1 in games that Wright has played in. Kin is averaging 20.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 7.2 assists in those five games.

Wright helped Iowa overcome a ten point deficit Friday night, leading the Wolves to their sixth win of the season. The guard dropped 30 points on 10-of-14 shooting while collecting six rebounds and two assists. Not to mention, he was a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown while going 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.

If you’re the general manager, a member of the coaching staff, or a fan of the Minnesota Timberwolves in general, you have to love what you’re seeing out of an undrafted product. Minnesota’s point guard room is pretty crowded right now with the likes of D’Angelo Russell and Patrick Beverley, but Wright is certainly making his case heard.
