It’s finally official. After putting his name in the transfer portal back on January 13th, Colorado Buffaloes running back

Jarek Broussard

has transferred to Michigan State to join former head coach

Mel Tucker

.

Tucker was the Buffs head coach back in 2020 and that was Broussard’s best statistical season. The 2020 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the year led the Pac-12 in rush attempts (156), rushing yards (895), and yards from scrimmage (960) while scoring five touchdowns in a shortened season.

Colorado made their first bowl appearance in 2020 under Tucker for the time since the 2016 season. The Buffs ended up losing to the Texas Longhorns in the Alamo Bowl 55-23, but Broussard was one of the lone bright spots in that blowout. The 5’9″ running back rushed the ball for 27 times, netting 87 yards on the ground while scoring two touchdowns.

2021 was a bumpy season for the Buffs, yet Broussard managed to hold his own. Jarek averaged 4.7 yards per carry, rushing the ball 142 times for 661 yards and two touchdowns. Colorado was statistically one of the worst offenses in Division 1 football.

The Buffs have now lost two running backs to the transfer portal, the other being Ashaad Clayton who transferred to Tulane.

Colorado still has redshirt junior Alex Fontenot, redshirt sophomore Deion Smith, freshman Jayle Stacks, and newcomer Victor Venn to fill out the running back room.

The Buffs are still in pretty good hands with Fontenot as RB1. In 2019, Fontenot rushed 185 times for 874 yards and five touchdowns. The 6’0″ running back saw a limited role behind Broussard this season, rushing for 326 yards on 96 attempts but he did score five times.

Fontenot was sidelined the entire 2020 season due to a hip injury.
