On a day just one day removed from losing running back Jarek Broussard who transferred to Michigan State, Karl Dorrell and company quickly filled the void by snagging All-American running back Ramon Jefferson from Sam Houston State.

The 5’10”, 210 pound junior started his college career for the Maine Black Bears in 2018. During that season, he rushed for 1,037 yards on 182 attempts averaging 5.7 yards per carry. He went on to score eight touchdowns for the 8-3 Black Bears that eventually lost in the semifinals to Eastern Washington.

After one season in Maine, Jefferson transferred to at Garden City Community College located in Garden City, Kansas for the 2019 season. He spent one season there then went on to sign with the Sam Houston State Bearkats in 2020.

This past season, Jefferson was named a FCS second team All-American after rushing for 1,155 yards on the ground on 173 attempts.. Jefferson was a touchdown machine for the Bearkats, reaching the back of the end zone 13 times. He was named third team All-American.

With the departure of Broussard, Jefferson now joins Alex Fontenot (Colorado’s 2019 starter), Deion Smith, Jayle Stacks, and newcomer Victor Venn to fill out the running back room.
