Colorado Buffaloes Football: Former DL Chidera Uzo-Diribe named OLB coach at Georgia
By Andrew Dill
Former Colorado Buffaloes football players are making the news lately. First, Eric Bieniemey had his
interview with the New Orleans Saints today
. Now, former defensive lineman
has been officially named the outside linebackers coach at the University of Georgia.
Uzo-Diribe was named the TCU Horned Frogs defensive line coach this past offseason, but Georgia’s gig was too good to pass up. Most recently, he was at SMU under head coach Sonny Dykes, serving as their defensive line coach. He was previously with the University of Kansas as their outside linebackers coach for two seasons.
The former Buff was on Colorado’s coaching staff as a graduate assistant from 2016-18, where he split time between the defensive line and outside linebackers.
Uzo-Diribe played all four seasons he was at Colorado from 2010-2013, collecting 112 tackles (81 solo) and 19.5 sacks. In 2011, he accounted for 5.5 sacks which was 9th in the Pac-12 and ranks 8th all-time in the Pac-12 with eight forced fumbles.
He was a monster for the Buffs.
He will be taking the spot of Dan Lanning, who left Georgia to take the head coaching gig at the University of Oregon.
Uzo-Diribe couldn’t ask for a better gig. Georgia is recently coming off a 14-1 record in the SEC while capturing their first national title since the 1980 season, defeating the University of Alabama, 33-18.
Their lone regular season loss was to Alabama so they got the last laugh.
The former Buff will inherit a really good defense, including two stud linebackers in Nolan Smith who was fifth on the team in total tackles with 55 and Robert Beal Jr. who led the entire team in sacks with 6.5. Nakobe Dean, Georgia’s top linebacker, declared for the NFL Draft so Uzo-Diribe won’t get the pleasure to work with him.
Uzo-Diribe and the Bulldogs open up their regular season on September 3rd at home hosting Lanning at the Oregon Ducks.
