By Shay McBryde
The Colorado Buffaloes women’s team look to make one last push for a playoff berth. The Buffs came off a huge win on Friday defeating the California Golden Bears 73-56, to go on their first 2 game win streak since January 9th when they beat USC and UCLA back to back.
Peanut Tuitele shined with 15 points and 4 rebounds, followed by the superstar Mya Hollingshed with 14 points and 3 rebounds. It was a statement win for Colorado. They moved on two days later to play the No. 2 team in the nation the Stanford Cardinals. The last time they faced the Cardinals was on Jan. 14th. It wasn’t a close matchup this time around and Colorado went down hard losing to a tough Stanford team 63-46.
The bright spots of the game was a that of Mya Hollingshed with her 7th double-double of the season scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Lesila Finau racked up 11 points and 5 rebounds, but the Cards were just too much to handle for the herd.
At 16-7 overall and 5-7 in the Pac-12 Colorado will have to make a statement up until the very end, and do well in the conference tournament for a chance at a selection. They have the talent and the leadership behind Hollingshed but there are no more room for errors.
The Buffaloes go into Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles on Friday night to take on the UCLA Bruins at 8:00 PM. The last meeting withe Bruins led to a 71-63 triumph. That will be followed by a short trip over to Galen Center to take on the USC Trojans again. The Buffs won that last battle in strong fashion in January with a 71-58 victory. They wrap up the regular season at home with Oregon and Oregon State next week.
