Colorado Buffaloes wide receivers coach Phil McGeoghan believes in development. Development on and off the field. Head coach Karl Dorrell hired the former Los Angeles Chargers wide receivers coach in 2022. The 42 year old former player and 2-team NFL coach is ready to make a splash in Colorado. Both on and off the field.

There are specific lessons McGeoghan is implanting into his players. What is being taught in the wide receivers room will not only make them successful football players but successful men. McGeoghan spoke these words to the press:

"“This isn’t going to be a country club you know, we’re going to work. And I want guys who want to work and want to improve and have a burning desire to be great and compete. Go to class, get a degree. Be good, young men.”“This isn’t going to be a country club you know, we’re going to work. And I want guys who want to work and want to improve and have a burning desire to be great and compete. Go to class, get a degree. Be good, young men.”"

Coach McGeoghan is also aggressive in his recruiting. If you are a top receiver in this country he is going to go after you. He said we are not going to back down to anybody in recruiting the wide receiver position. If you are a top talent I’m going to be on you to come here. The Buffaloes have already made six offers to the top 25 receiving recruits in 2023.

With the strong depth at the quarterback position Colorado will need that kind of receiving depth as well. Last season was atrocious at times to watch all the dropped balls and unsuccessful routes. They have lost a lot of talent but I believe who they bring in is going to far outweigh all of that for the Buffs.

Former Baylor Bear and CU Buff newcomer RJ Sneed is looking to be one of those players coming in who will be greater than those who left. With his experience and high talent he may just the player McGeoghan can develop more into becoming a superstar. Already highly successful in the Power 5 he is going to be one to watch out for for Colorado.

"”You know, we’re going to learn a lot of life lessons there. Not just about the route depth on a comeback. So there’s a holistic development process. And I want guys who want to be better men. You know want to be better sons, eventually husbands and fathers.” -McGeoghan on the type of player and person he wants out of his players.”You know, we’re going to learn a lot of life lessons there. Not just about the route depth on a comeback. So there’s a holistic development process. And I want guys who want to be better men. You know want to be better sons, eventually husbands and fathers.” -McGeoghan on the type of player and person he wants out of his players."

Karl Dorrell already says it is a privilege to have McGeoghan on his staff. Phil loves being in the state of Colorado and already loves working for a man he has so much respect and admiration for. This was another perfect hire for Dorrell and one that will really play out on the field this season. Especially when Colorado starts getting to bowl games these are the kinds of coaches that are going to get you trophy’s.
