Colorado Basketball: Buffs send out seniors in style with win over #2 ranked Arizona
By Andrew Dill
The Colorado Buffaloes men’s basketball team experienced a letdown Thursday night at the hands of the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Buffs rebounded on Saturday night and shocked the world by taking down the #2 ranked Arizona Wildcats.
It was an emotional night for Buffs senior forward Evan Battey and rightfully so. He has been the heart and soul of this Buffaloes team for the past four years . Immediately following the game Saturday night, the school put on a surprise video for their senior following the win.
You could see the emotion on his face after watching former teammates McKinley Wright IV, D’Shawn Schwartz, and Tyler Bey praise Battey for how he’s helped them not only on the court, but off.
"“I miss those guys”"
In potentially his final game at the Coors Event Center, “The Mayor” Battey scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, hauling down four rebounds while collecting two steals.
Tristan da Silva scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.
Five of the eight Colorado players scored in double-figures Saturday night.
Former Buffs guard George King liked what he saw out of his former team.
Jabari Walker added another double-double to his resume by posting 15 points and 14 rebounds while freshman guard KJ Simpson poured in 13 points off the bench.
Colorado has one game remaining on the road at Utah next Saturday. The Buffs are currently chasing Oregon for the fourth seed in the Pac-12 Tournament.
Oregon has two games remaining on the road at Washington and Washington State.
Keep in mind that Colorado owns the tiebreaker over Oregon.
Also the first four seeds in the Pac-12 Tournament get a first-round bye so it’s crucial Colorado takes care of business at Utah.
Colorado fans are all Washington and Washington State fans this week.
