The Colorado Buffaloes will have yet another coaching position to fill just before spring ball hits. Vic So’oto was hired on in late December. According to head coach Karl Dorrell in a press conference today he has decided to coach at home in California for family reasons.

It was less than two weeks when Vic So’oto spoke about being excited and ready to bring the pain for the Buffs defensive line. So’oto was looking forward to bringing a violent and physical nature to the line. A take no prisoners effort for Colorado. He came from coaching the defensive line at USC before he caught Karl Dorrell’s eye.

Vic So’oto was an undrafted NFL player in 2011 and went onto a good stint in the National Football League. He was a part of 6 NFL teams. First starting with the Green Bay Packers in 2011 and wound up with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2014. So’oto began his coaching career at his alma mater at BYU in 2015. A year later he went on to become a graduate assistant to a defensive line coach a year after. In 2020 he wound up at USC to coach the d-line until the Buffs brought him to Boulder.

We were all looking forward to having a coach with experience of success in the Pac-12 already and NFL experience. As he played outside linebacker with six different teams his value to the coaching staff was looking to be grand. Defensive coordinator Chris Wilson was the reason So’oto had come to Boulder in the first place. So’oto believed in him and believed in the system and quality of players. Wilson knew he would had great value and be hungry to create a high powered unstoppable linebackers.

It is unfortunate to see him leave Colorado after the high expectations fans have had for him and the defense. Buff nation wishes you luck, and we hope you find what you are looking for at home in California.
