Colorado Buffaloes freshman guard Kindyll Wetta was awarded with two Pac-12 honors along with Quay Miller who was awarded sixth woman of the year, and Mya Hollingshed who was named on the All-Pac-12 team. Wetta was honored today on the All-Pac-12 freshman team, as well as the Pac-12 defensive team.

Kindyll Wetta came out of Valor Christian High School from Castle Rock, Colorado where she was the 19th ranked point guard in the nation. She helped her team go undefeated when she was a senior and took them to the State Championships. Her success carried on in Boulder as the 5-foot-9 freshman averaged 4 points a game. Though what may not appear as high number offensively the defensive side of the ball is where she shined.

Wetta leads the NCAA freshman assist to turnover ratio and set the school all time record for steals in a single quarter. She was at one point leading the Pac-12 in steals this time last week. Head coach JR Payne has loved the toughness in her from day one. A player who is always prepared and always ready to take on the best of the best offenses in the league. A fearless player with a heart of a champion and knows exactly how to fight through adversity.

After a strong start to the season this team has had it’s ups and downs, but any time Wetta is on the floor she takes the game in her hands and has the energy and toughness that put a spark into the rest of the girls. Thanks to her play she has helped lead the Buffs to attain the top scoring defense in the Pac-12.

Colorado will look to lean onto that toughness into the Pac-12 Conference Tournament this week when they start things off against Washington on Wednesday.
