In January Gerald Chatman was named the defensive line coach for Tulane University. Now he looks to be hired on as the new defensive line coach at Colorado according to Bruce Feldman at Fox Sports. He spent the 2021 as the defensive line coach for the LSU Tigers. A line that stood 9th in the country in tackles for loss.

Chatman started his career as a defensive line coach where he went to college at Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He was a defensive lineman for the school and graduated in 2010. From there he went onto Ball State where he was a defensive graduate assistant, helping lead Ball State to several bowl appearances under the help of his leadership. Afterwards he moved on to become a recuiriting coordinator and defensive line coach for the Butler Bulldogs. Totaling a number of 9 years working in college football.

Gerald Chatman comes from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 2017 through 2018 he worked with Tennessee State University as the defensive end and linebackers coach. In the next two seasons he added special teams coordinator to his resume, where he led three special teams athletes to Ohio Valley all-conference awards.

Prior to coaching at Tennessee State he was a graduate assistant at Texas A&M working mostly with the defensive line. He also coached a short time as defensive line coach at Elon University after the Aggies.

In 2019 and 2020 Chatman was spending his days with some other tigers. The Cincinnati Bengals, where he worked mainly with the defensive ends and outside linebackers. He took a struggling Bengals defense to the next level. Gerald is also no stranger to ties with Colorado when he worked with former Buff and Bengals defensive tackle Josh Tupou.

Chatman holds a bachelors degree in educational leadership and human services, and with his NFL and extensive college football career in coaching he has everything head coach Karl Dorrell could ask for. It will be a sensational hire after losing Vic So’oto earlier this week to the California Bears. This seasoned and experienced coach is a great and much needed add to the coaching staff going into spring ball.
