It’s that time of year again, to embark on the madness of March and all that comes with it. This is the moment the Colorado Buffaloes women’s basketball team has been waiting for. The reason Mya Hollingshed chose to came back to Boulder instead of starting off her career in the WNBA. After all the hard work, fight, passion, heart, and strength it has all finally paid off. The Buffs come in at the #7 seed, set to take on the #10 Creighton Blue Jays.
At the #10 seed Creighton comes in with a 15-5 record in conference play, and 20-9 overall. Their leading scorer is Emma Ronsiek who scored 14.9 points a game with 5.1 rebounds. Coming in just behind her is teammate Lauren Jensen at 12.3 and Morgan Maly at 12.0.
Colorado will head to the Greensboro Region. The Buffs come into the game with a 22-8 record led by the sensational Mya Hollingshed, who averages 14.1 points and 7.5 rebounds a game. Their biggest offensive weapon and rebound machine. Don’t let the numbers fool you because she is a double-double Queen.
The Buff greatness is then followed by the Pac-12 sixth woman of the year, and in my opinion the best in the NCAA. You won’t find many games of hers without double figures. Freshman Kindyll Wetta though her numbers offensively won’t pop out at you she is a defensive game master already in her young career. She did just score 12 points against Stanford. Jaylyn Sherrod is also a talented freshman, and Peanut Tuitele is a force on the inside and defensive powerhouse.
Where the Buffaloes shine the most is their defense and their remarkable togetherness and unselfishness. They all have a warrior deep within them from the top to the bottom of the roster. A will to win and a want to get better each minute they are on the floor. With an impeccable defense and a streaky high powered offense the sky can be the limit for the Buffs. As long as they are productive on the offense side, stay out of foul trouble, and shoot well from the line there won’t be many teams who can stop Boulder’s best.
It only took Colorado six years for head coach Payne but they are back and ready to turn some heads in this 2022 March Madness. Their long journey takes them to Iowa City, Ohio on Friday. The first time in 9 years. Despite the tough loss to Stanford in the Pac-12 Tournament this is still one of the hottest teams in college basketball. Going 10-2 in their last 12 games. JR is looking to once again bring the house of Payne to Iowa. The court of dreams.
