Colorado Basketball: Forever Buff Derrick White is headed to the NBA Finals
By Shay McBryde
Colorado’s own Derrick White is headed to the NBA Finals. After a tough game six loss in Boston but a remarkable effort by White the Celtics went down to Miami and took care of business. To get to the first NBA Finals for Boston in over 12 years.
The Celtics finished out game 7 with a 100-96 victory in a tough atmosphere in Miami. Forever Buff Derrick White checked in for 18 minutes and 8 points, also tacking on 3 rebounds and an assist. Jayson Tatum was the leading scorer with 26 and 10 rebounds. Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown each had 24 points in the valiant effort, and will lead the Celtics back into the NBA Finals for a chance at their 18th NBA title.
The former Spur Derrick White has made his mark already in Boston. Bringing new life off the bench and has come alive just when Boston needed it the most. Getting to the Finals was a full team effort and White was very much a part of that. Not only with the offensive spark, but shutting down big time players with his defensive play. We will watch White’s streak continue all the way to game one of the NBA Finals in San Francisco on Thursday evening.
It goes to show that you should never count somebody out. He went from leaving a San Antonio team he wasn’t getting a lot of minutes for, to coming alive in Boston, to having his first child, and to becoming an Eastern Conference Champion and NBA finalist.
The Warriors are lead by a trio of NBA Champions and the Celtics are packed full of offensive output as well. Jayson Tatum has been knocking off super stars of the league left and right to get to the finals. However, this will be an NBA Finals of who get’s the job done better defensively. Both two of the best defensive teams in the league get to go head to head and show just why defense wins championships.
Derrick White is the first Buff to reach the NBA Finals since Chauncey Billups did it in 2004. Don’t miss a minute of the NBA Finals action when tip off beings Thursday at 9 PM ET on ABC at the Chase Center in San Francisco.
