Colorado women’s basketball Head coach JR Payne adds another great piece to her coaching staff. Southeastern’ s Tim Hays will now join the Buffaloes. In 2022 he broke Southeastern’s all time record for wins in program history winning 176 games. Tim is a great fit for this coaching staff because much like Payne he doesn’t care so much about accolades and records. His accomplishments in the end are winning and making his program and players better. Which they have both done. So together they could make Colorado a powerhouse in the Pac-12.

Hays will now be at the helm of the point guards. Coming onto a team that is already highly talented in the guard position. Now sophomore Kindyll Wetta is going to be a treat for him to coach. Former newcomer of the year and defensive MVP. Also named to the Pac-12-All-Freshman squad deservedly. She once held the steal record in the Pac-12 for most of the season. Helping mold players like Wetta and others on the squad is a dream for any coach.

Tim’s coaching journey started in Montana State as a camp director. He assisted the recruiting coordinator for the Bobcats, as well as with the offensive game plan. Hays also spent a few years in the land down under coaching the Launceston Tornadoes. Gather 30 wins on his belt and earning coach of the year honors.

He then spent eight season as the coach of Colorado Christian. Getting over 140 wins. Hays still remains that programs most winningest coach in school history. He had two NCAA berths with the Cougars, and won one championship. He was also inducted to their hall of fame a year ago.

Hays has coached nine All-Americans. Southeastern was a squad that was not on the radar and he took them to a No. 1 ranking. He has a habit throughout his career of taking teams from nothing to something huge. Luckily for him he’s coming onto a Buff squad that had a highly successful 2021-2022 season. Making the NCAAW Tournament for the first time in years.

As a player in high school he achieved All-American honors. He has the experience as a player and coach to know what it takes to get to the top. Head coach JR Payne is extremely happy with the hire. His track record of astonishing development of players is something for all Buff fans to be excited for.
