Evan Battey is not the only Buff this year having fun in some 3×3 basketball. Colorado’s own Frida Formann represented her home country of Denmark in the FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup qualifiers. The Europe Cup will take place on September 9th through the 11th in Austria. Formann and her team were in Constanta, Romania this weekend to qualify in Pool C.
Formann had come off a sensational freshman campaign coming into last season. She was an All-Pac-12 mention. She averaged 12.4 as a freshman. In 2022 she averaged 7.5 points per game but was still an impact for JR Payne. On Buffs Senior Day Frida had three-point shots raining and scored her season high of 15 points. That performance helped lead Colorado to getting their 20th win of the season.
Denmark matched up against Hungary in their first session in Day 1. Formann scored three baskets in a row to get it to a three point game in the closing seconds. The score was 9-6. She was on fire and powerful presence against Hungary. They brought the game close at the very last ticks on the clock in a nail biter, but in the end Denmark ran out of time and took a loss. Hungary won 9-7. The loss would set them up for a matchup with Great Britain.
In session 2 for the pride of the red and white they took on Great Britain in another close and more high scoring contest, but fell once against 14-17. They averaged 10.5 points in the qualifiers and scored 21 in both games overall. Hungary led the way for their Pool coming away with 2 wins.
Despite the double losses for Denmark it was thrilling to see Frida out there scoring and representing her country. We can’t wait to see those moves when she’s back in Boulder letting those lethal three-pointers drop again. Congratulations on a great showing out in Romania. Buff Nation is so proud of you!
