Deion Sanders uses ‘Coach Prime’ mystique to lure Travis Hunter, others from Jackson State
Deion Sanders first recruiting class as Colorado’s head coach had a big boost when three players announced they were transferring from Jackson State to join Coach Prime in Boulder.
“No one is safe” is what we heard from new Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders, and as usual, he’s living up to his word. Three of his former players at Jackson State have announced they are transferring to Colorado, including five-start cornerback, Travis Hunter, who was coveted by every major program in the country.
Hunter became a huge media focus when he decided to thwart major Power-5 programs such as Florida State to play for an HBCU school. It was Coach Prime’s first big get at Jackson State and helped build a lot of recruiting momentum at the school.
Now the former Collins Hill High School standout will be once again playing for Sanders, but this time on a much bigger stage with the opportunity to help rebuild a proud and storied program.

Joining Hunter in Boulder will be former Jackson State teammate and quarterback, Shedeur Sanders — which comes as no surprise being Coach Prime’s son. Also riding the transfer train from JSU will be offensive lineman Tyler Brown.
The transfers alone are enough to give Colorado fans a lot of hope, but the haul of recruit signings during the opening of the early signing period is just as important. The Buffaloes signed 16 recruits and only lost one previous commit to another program, with Jordan Shaw deciding to sign with Indiana.
Everyone knew Deion Sanders was going to make a big difference in terms of recruiting and visibility for the Colorado football program. It will be fun to see how this can be turned into wins when the 2023 season gets here.
