Deion Sanders was given an encouraging timeline to return to the Colorado football program on July 21 during a Pac-12 Media Day “Prime Time” wasn’t present for. Buffaloes defensive coordinator Charles Kelly updated Sanders’ recovery from blood clots in his legs that required surgery and gave Coach Prime fall camp as a target.

“He’s doing a lot better,” Kelly said of Sanders following his second surgery in a month on July 20 (h/t CBS Sports). “His number one thing is to get back is to lead these players in the fall. … When fall camp gets here he will be ready to go.” Sanders has made it his goal to be the spiritual Ralphie for the Buffs running onto the field to take on the College Football Playoff runner-up TCU at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth on September 2.

“I promise you when we go to TCU, I’m running out in front of our team,” Sanders said on July 19. “I promise you that.”

TCU AD on TCU-Colorado football Power Five opener for Deion Sanders: ‘We’re happy to be the first ones to officially welcome him’

Back in 2021, before the Horned Frogs hired Sonny Dykes — and before embarking on a Cinderella run to the College Football Playoff National Championship game but laying an egg against Georgia on the biggest stage — Sanders was given an interview for the head coaching job by TCU AD Jeremiah Donati.

Donati spoke about his excitement at Big 12 media days to host Coach Prime in his first-ever Power Five matchup on September 2 in the DFW (h/t BuffZone).

“I’m very familiar with CU’s program, with Boulder and I was there for a lot of great football,” Donati prefaced before saying, “So, I’m excited for those fans and for that community to have the momentum that Coach Prime has brought. So, we’re happy to be the first ones to officially welcome him (to the Power 5).”

TCU is nearly a three-touchdown favorite over Colorado, but having Sanders run with his team will be a spiritual victory that’d produce more momentum than even the mighty Ralphie could.
