Deion Sanders’ son, Shedeur Sanders, is showing “Prime Time” like qualities in challenging incoming Colorado football 5-star defensive back Cormani McClain, who flipped from Miami to the Buffaloes on January 19, every day during practice. Shedeur said something his father must’ve said to him at some point before he got to Jackson State or after his jump from the SWAC to Pac-12 (or both) when he claimed that McClain needs to prove himself since what he did in high school “doesn’t mean anything now. in college”
“I’m going to go at (Cormani) everyday in practice when I see him out there,” Sanders said (h/t Buffs Beat’s Brian Schaible). “He has no choice. Because I’m going to keep going at him to see what he’s good at. He was a five-star in high school, but that doesn’t mean anything now in college.”
Shedeur is as good a mouthpiece as one can be for his father on the offensive side of the football for CU. With Coach Prime being the defensive mind, it’s clear that the younger Sanders will be the undisputed leader under center in Boulder. This sort of mentality from a QB, who by the way, delivered the goods at Jackson State with a 40:6 touchdown-interception ratio, is an exciting development for Buffaloes fans.
Shedeur Sanders delivers a promising message about Colorado football 5-star Cormani McClain
In challenging McClain to reach his potential, Shedeur has been able to see great things from the Lakeland product in practice ahead of both of their Power Five debut seasons in 2023.
“(McClain) has a good I.Q. and things other guys don’t have,” Sanders said. “In his toolbox, he’s got a lot of things. So, I’m going to keep working, keep going at him to understand what he’s good at and what he’s bad at. And try to exploit what he’s bad at. So, when other teams see that, he won’t have any weakness.”
Shedeur is unquestionably the son of Coach Prime, and given the success Deion had, it only speaks positive volumes for CU’s QB position over the next several years.
