Deion Sanders could be under scrutiny by Colorado football fans by the 2024 season according to Mike Farrell and Matt Perkins of Mike Farrell Sports — who included Coach Prime as a throw-in on their post-2023 season coaching hot seat projection.

“I’ll throw Deion in here and why not? Will the fan base still be excited if he goes 3-9 which is honestly very likely?” the duo questioned.

The list Farrell and Perkins came up with largely revolved around head coaches who have had success in recent seasons and may have set their team up for failed expectations because of it, like Tennessee’s Josh Heupel, South Carolina’s Shane Beamer, FSU’s Mike Norvell — who seems the most likely to deliver on the gaudy expectations his program’s have of their team –, TCU’s Sonny Dykes, and Oregon’s Dan Lanning. The SEC coaches are, well, in the SEC, so disappointment seems likely at some point. Lanning’s loss of offensive coordinator Kenny Dillingham to ASU doesn’t bode well for the Ducks’ offense, while Dykes losing many of the key pieces of the Horned Frogs’ 2022 College Football Playoff run may be the death knell to their short-term hopes of contending in the Big 12. CU is in a different boat than all of them, though, with not even the spring game giving any inkling as to what to expect given the mass transfers since. Sanders’s big talk and unpopular recruiting tactics (to the media at least) already have him in the national crosshairs, though.

Colorado football could be a victim of Deion Sanders hype in 2023

Sportsbooks understand that it may take a while for CU to gel with so much new talent in tow, but casual college football fans may expect an immediate jump given the six 5-star transfers and Coach Prime’s previous coaching record at Jackson State.

The truth is, a massive one-year jump in a conference like the Pac-12, which features star transfers and super-seniors under center across the board, is going to be difficult for Colorado football. But Sanders has already put the spotlight on the Buffs, so if they don’t start winning, the public won’t care about the aforementioned nuances.
