‘No reason’ Deion Sanders shouldn’t like transfer portal: Analyst
Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders has “no reason” why he shouldn’t like the transfer portal according to On3’s Nick Kosko — who backs up his point by referring to Coach Prime’s 2023 offseason haul, one that represents over 26% of the total number of players all Pac-12 programs added this offseason.
“There’s no reason Sanders shouldn’t like the transfer portal, as he’s brought in 48 players to Colorado through the transfer portal this offseason and has the No. 3 ranked transfer portal class in the nation according to On3’s Transfer Portal Index,” Kosko wrote in reference to Sanders’ proclamation to Joel Klatt on the June 12 edition of The Joel Klatt Show: Big Noon Conversations.
“Yeah it’s some details about it I would probably change, but I like it, I like it,” Sanders said. “Now I’m built a little different, I’m old school. I was raised and taught we gon’ make it work, I’m not gon’ duck and dodge and leave if I can’t beat this guy out. I’m a beat him out eventually, we weren’t built like that.”
Pitt coach Pat Narduzzi on Deion Sanders’ use of the transfer portal to build Colorado football roster: ‘Not the way it’s meant to be’
Sanders’ Colorado football roster-building methods have been subject to a range of opinions from college football coaches, but no opinion was more poignant than that of Pitt coach Patt Narduzzi; a stark critic of Coach Prime who believes the Buffs forced out a good number of the program’s outbound transfers.
“That’s not the way it’s meant to be,” Narduzzi said of Sanders (h/t 247Sports). “That’s not what the rule intended to be. It was not to overhaul your roster. We’ll see how it works out but that, to me, looks bad on college football coaches across the country. The reflection is on one guy right now but when you look at it overall − those kids that have moms and dads and brothers and sisters and goals in life − I don’t know how many of those 70 that left really wanted to leave or they were kicked in the butt to get out.”
Narduzzi’s harsh transfer portal opinion may or may not have had anything to do with his Panthers losing quarterback Kedon Slovis to BYU and, in general, losing more talent to the portal than what they gained.
