Shedeur Sanders gives update on understanding of Buffs offense
Shedeur Sanders gave a fall camp update on where he’s currently at in terms of understanding the Colorado football offense under first-year offensive coordinator Sean Lewis — positively reporting that he’s at about 80% understanding of the Buffaloes’ offense.
“I’d say right now I’m 80%,” Sanders said (h/t Adam Munsterteiger of BuffStampede). “I’d say I’m almost there. He (Lewis) has 12 years in the offense, I had a spring. So, coming back to it, meeting with him, we’re able to spend more time together. It means a lot, because I am starting to understand what he thinks and why he is calling certain stuff and his thought process and what to do in each situation that presents itself. So he’s given us all the answers to the problem, we just have to solve them. If we don’t, then it’s on us.” Buffaloes Wire’s Matt Wadleigh believes learning Lewis’ offense will be just as big of a challenge for Sanders during the 2023 season as adjusting to Power Five competition.
“It’s tough enough making the move from the FCS to the FBS, let alone a Power Five program,” Wadleigh prefaced before saying, “Doing so with the high-octane offense of Lewis, which was electric at Kent State, is a totally different obstacle to face.”
Shedeur Sanders has toughest job in college football as Colorado football QB1
Given all the hype Coach Prime has created since taking over the Colorado football program last December, the amount of attention the Buffs are about to receive will be unprecedented. As the coach’s son and QB1, Sanders’ job responsibilities now involve carrying the weight of these expectations in Boulder.
There are certainly perks with such an arrangement, don’t get me wrong. Sanders’ earning potential is through the roof and most athletes would do plenty to have that sort of spotlight shined on them.
Still, Thanksgiving 2023 is going to be quite an interesting day if CU just went through a wood-chipper in the months leading up to it.
