Colorado DC’s reaction to Dan Lanning shows Buffs can handle relentless noise
Colorado football defensive coordinator Charles Kelly responding to Oregon head coach Dan Lanning’s shot at the program for ditching the Pac-12 for the Big 12 in such a diplomatic fashion shows that the Buffs can handle the “seemingly relentless noise” that’s going to come CU’s way due to the presence of Coach Prime — this, at least, according to Buffaloes Wire’s Jack Carlough.
“With Lanning being only the latest coach to attack Colorado in recent months, Kelly’s professional response suggests that his team can handle the seemingly relentless noise — both positive and negative —directed toward the Buffs,” Carlough wrote. Kelly had responded to Lanning say he was “trying to remember what they won to affect this conference and (didn’t) remember” with defiant apathy.
“It really doesn’t matter to me what he thinks,” Kelly said. “That has no impact on what we do. Our results will be about us. It will not be about what another coach says. It will not be about what somebody on the outside says.”
Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders’ reaction to Dan Lanning
You just knew Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders wasn’t going to take Lanning’s talk lying down. Coach Prime responded to Lanning’s shot by pointing out the hypocrisy from the Ducks’ figurehead; whose program ended up making its own jump to the Big Ten days later.
“Man, I don’t care nothing about no different teams moving,” said Sanders (h/t USA Today). “We’re trying to win, man. I don’t care what we play. I don’t care what conference, who we’re playing against. We’re trying to win. All this is about money. You know that. It’s about a bag (money). Everybody is chasing a bag. Then you get mad at the players when they chase it. How’s that? How do the grown-ups get mad at the players when they chase it when the colleges are chasing it.”
Sanders is well within his right to fire back at Lanning, but the actual substantive talking will be done on the field when his Buffs battle Lanning’s Ducks.
