The Colorado football offense has been outplaying the defense thus far at the Buffaloes’ fall camp according to DNVR’s Jake Schwanitz — who also noted that there’s been a clear progression from August 2 to August 5.

“The Buffs have been pushing for four straight days to open camp and Coach Prime’s squad emptied the tank before Sunday’s off day for what was the best practice of camp so far,” Schwanitz wrote. “Continuing with the trend we’ve seen since the first day, the offense continues to have a slight edge over the defense. The progression from Day 1 to Day 4 for the defense has been clear and after practice, Uncle Neely called today’s practice “a coin toss” between the offense and defense.”

Colorado football RB room caught up to Shedeur Sanders and Buffs passing game

Schwanitz provided a positive update on the running back room — one that has welcomed in several transfers including Houston transfer Alton McCaskill IV and Kentucky defector Kasoviey Smoke — saying that the group is “as advertised.”

“Sheduer Sanders and Colorado’s passing game has been the early buzz of camp but it only took CU’s running game an extra day or two to catch up,” Schwanitz prefaced before saying, “While Alton McCaskill projects to be the lead back for the Buffs, Colorado’s stable of running backs is as advertised in terms of their strength, consistency and depth.”

McCaskill comes to Boulder following a full-season absence in 2022 due to a torn ACL after amassing 1,074 total yards of offense and 18 touchdowns in 2021. Smoke comes to Colorado after a career at Kentucky that included 1,583 career rushing yards and 13 touchdowns in four years.

FSU transfer predicted to be a ‘reliable presence’ for Colorado football defense

FSU transfer Bishop Thomas was predicted to be a “reliable presence” for CU’s defense by Uncle Neely, the proud Jackson State alum who is now cheering for Coach Prime in his Colorado football journey.

“According to Uncle Neely, the flashes of potential are there with Thomas and it’s only a matter of consistency before he emerges as a reliable presence on Colorado’s defensive line,” Schwanitz wrote.

Thomas saw game action one time in 2022 against Boston College; collecting just one tackle as the Seminoles were piling on the Eagles.
