Colorado transfer surprisingly tabbed as potential star
Colorado football transfer Shane Cokes, who spent four years at Dartmouth before using his graduate eligibility to join Deion Sanders‘ Buffaloes, was tabbed to be a potential star player in 2023 by Buffaloes Wire’s Tony Cosolo.
“Shane Cokes is a player that I am really excited to watch,” Cosolo prefaced before saying, “Cokes can play all over the front as a run disruptor on the outside on early lines and also has the size and motor to kick down and generate a pass-rush from the inside on passing downs. He earned some respect from the coaches during spring ball as he was one of the few players to earn a jersey number.”
Cokes amassed 87 total tackles, 14 for a loss, eight and a half sacks, one pass deflection, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery for the Big Green and was named to the All-Ivy League Second Team the past two seasons.
Shane Cokes stood up for Ivy League but acknowledged Colorado football will see better competition
Cokes’ attitude toward the game, one that clearly includes a great deal of respect, is one of his best traits. The Dayton, Ohio native, while speaking to BuffZone’s Brian Howell, stood up for his teammates and colleagues in the Ivy League before ultimately acknowledging the challenge playing in a Power Five conference will bring.
“I don’t think people would give the Ivy League the respect that it deserves because the academic rigor and everything that comes with that, but I mean, there’s a lot of great players in the Ivy League, a lot of great competition,” Cokes prefaced before saying, “But, I mean, Power 5 is Power 5, so obviously there’s going to be better players (at Colorado and in the Pac-12).”
Typically, the best players tend to have the best attitudes. Cosolo’s take on Cokes likely won’t go cold if he can stay healthy.
