Deion Sanders had a shocking message about the team chemistry he wishes to see for his Colorado football program during the 2023 season — essentially saying it isn’t something he desires at all if his team is winning.

“I don’t care about culture. I don’t even care if they like each other, I want to win,” Sanders proclaimed at the Buffaloes’ annual fall sports media day Friday (h/t Sports Illustrated). “I have been on some teams where the quarterback didn’t like the receiver but they darn sure made harmony when the ball was snapped. And we’re not like that, trust me, these kids are very fond of one another.”

Buffaloes fans, if polled, may actually agree with Coach Prime after the disaster that was Karl Dorrell’s final two seasons in Boulder; which included five wins and a brutal post-mortem assessment from Sanders…

Deion Sanders: The 2022 Colorado football featured players with ‘dead eyes’

Coach Prime didn’t take it easy on the 2022 Colorado football roster — one in which he demanded most of them move to the transfer portal –, accusing all but 10 of them of having “dead eyes” and lacking love for the sport of football.

“It was tremendously tough, because you had some young men that just didn’t want to play the game,” Sanders prefaced before saying, “They didn’t love football. It’s hard for me to be effective if you don’t love it, if you don’t like it, if you don’t want to live it. That’s tough. That’s tremendously tough when you’re looking at a body of just dead eyes. That’s tough on any coach, not just me. I’m pretty sure a multitude of coaches have experienced that until they could clean house and get the roster they want. It was tremendously challenging day by day. I’m happy with what I see every morning now. I really am.”

The hope is that Sanders has nothing similar to say about his current group, and thus far in fall camp, that hasn’t been the case.
