Deion Sanders‘ Colorado football program has been given the lowest of the low when it comes to 2023 season predictions from Mike Farrell Sports’ Scott Salomon — who believes that things will turn from “Prime Time into Slime Time” as the calendar progresses.
“Prime Time will turn into Slime Time at the University of Colorado,” Salomon proclaimed. “While most NCAA coaches talk about establishing a culture in their locker room and building chemistry between the players, Deion Sanders, AKA ‘Coach Prime’ has gone on record with the fact that he does not even care if his players like each other, he just wants to win. Coming off a dismal season, that might be easier said than done.” Salomon was referring to comments made by Coach Prime on August 11 about not caring about his players having chemistry.
“I don’t care about culture. I don’t even care if they like each other, I want to win,” Sanders prefaced before saying, “I have been on some teams where the quarterback didn’t like the receiver but they darn sure made harmony when the ball was snapped. And we’re not like that, trust me, these kids are very fond of one another.”
Deion Sanders set to draw most hyperbolic Colorado football opinions from all sides
Sanders is the reason for the season when it comes to Colorado football coverage; something that was lacking for the most part over the last six or so years as the Buffs languished under three different head coaches and two interim ones that had to step in midseason. No matter what opinion someone has of him, good or bad, it’s going to be hyperbolic because of his methods.
In this day and age, being stern with student-athletes is something a large portion of the public will condemn off of optics alone. And Sanders’ comments about players on the 2022 Buffs squad having “dead eyes” may have been a bit much.
But until his No. 1 2023 transfer class takes to the field, it makes one wonder how many are so assured Coach Prime and Colorado are doomed to fail.
