Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders has had a difficult summer from a health perspective, dealing with countless surgeries relating to blood clots in his leg. Seeing one of the great athletes of all time lose the physical abilities that even post-retirement offer is tough for the entire sports world to witness.

But it’s not all doom and gloom, though. Sanders has an inspirational goal we should all believe he will deliver: running like Ralphie out onto the field for the Buffaloes’ first game against College Football Playoff runner-up TCU. BuffsBeat’s Josh Tolle framed the situation encouragingly enough while acknowledging painful truths.

“Deion Sanders is always smiling, but his reason for joy comes after weeks of struggles,” Tolle prefaced before saying, “He may never be high-stepping or dance ever again, but it’s now about searching for normality. The Colorado Buffaloes coach told his players on Tuesday that he was excited to finally remove the cast from his left foot, which means he’s on schedule to be running behind Ralphie in a few short weeks.”

Deion Sanders’ message to his Colorado football locker room

As confirmed by the man himself, Coach Prime is on track to be running ahead of the Colorado football locker room for Week 1 of the 2023 season and beyond. Sanders told his locker room on August 15 the good news of his hopeful timeline.

“I don’t know if any of you felt that way,” Sanders prefaced before saying, “But something about today was different. It wasn’t really all about football. It was about me having the opportunity to elevate.

“This was the day that they were taking my cast off. So, I went to bed last night at about eight o’ clock, and I was excited. I was happy, and before my feet hit the ground, I was like Lord, thank you. See, your goal is to be dominant all season. My goal is to just run out before you at TCU.”

If/when he does do what most wouldn’t think to do on September 2, Sanders will immortalize himself immediately in Buffs lore for what he’s conquered this summer.
