No one is ever shocked when Deion Sanders shows respectful doubt in his players given the circumstances CU’s 2023 squad is entering the season in, and according to Buffaloes Wire’s Matt Wadleigh, it’s “not surprising” to see Coach Prime down on his Colorado football quarterback room depth behind Shedeur Sanders.

“Coach Prime has high expectations for everybody on the team, so this isn’t entirely surprising,” Wadleigh wrote. “Besides Shedeur Sanders, the Buffs have a pair of true freshmen in Ryan Staub and Kasen Weisman who are both on scholarship. Apart from that, they have a pair of walk-ons: Gavin Kuld and Colton Allen.” Coach Prime had said he was “unsatisfied” with CU’s signal-callers at fall camp media day and doesn’t know who a QB2 would be.

“I don’t know if they’ve emerged,” Sanders said. “They’re doing well, but we’re still unsatisfied. It’s tough to satisfy us, our whole staff…. We’ve got to find that guy that we can trust. He’s in-house, we’ve just got to develop him.”

Journeyman Colorado football transfer: Shedeur Sanders prepping young quarterbacks well in case of emergency

Journeyman Colorado football transfer Javon Antonio relayed to BuffZone’s Brian Howell that Shedeur is helping the young Buffaloes quarterbacks along in the event Sanders’ youngest son got injured.

“He’s teaching them that role if he does go down,” Antonio said. “They’re up next, so they know the process of what’s going on and stuff like that because we know if he goes down, we have somebody else that can step up. They’re taking mental reps behind him and seeing what’s going on. … He’s teaching them the game, as well as (offensive coordinator Sean Lewis).”

Coach Prime, when speaking on the possibility of Shedeur getting injured, said he doesn’t want to miss a beat while sounding like a concerned parent in the process.

“We don’t want to miss a beat when, if by God – and God, please don’t let it happen, but if something happens with Shedeur …,” Deion said.
