Second Team All-AAC Colorado football transfer portal addition Xavier Weaver, one of the two star wideout transfers from USF, deserves all the praise he is currently receiving and more according to Buffaloes Wire’s Matt Wadleigh — who was responding to CU wide receivers coach Brett Bartolone’s praise of the Orlando native.

“Bartolone knows what it’s like to play in the Pac-12,” Wadleigh prefaced before saying, “After all, he played college football at Washington State and led the Cougars with 53 receptions as a freshman. This praise for Weaver is well-deserved, and Colorado’s WRs room could be a tough group to stop.” Bartolone said that Weaver has the tools to be a leader at the highest level (h/t Jake Schwanitz of DNVR Buffs).

“He’s got every tool to be an NFL receiver and do it at a high level,” Bartolone prefaced before saying, “He leads by example.”

Colorado football transfer Xavier Weaver was ‘itching to get here’ to Boulder

Weaver was “itching to get” to Boulder once ex-Bulls teammate Jimmy Horn committed to Deion Sanders’ Colorado football program, admitting that it was all but a done deal after his co-star in Tampa beat him to the punch.

“I was itching to get here for sure, but when I saw (Horn) out here doing his thing, I just knew it was coming,” Weaver told The Denver Gazette. “I knew what he was coming up here to do. We’re just going to come here and do it together.”

Colorado’s offensive coordinator, Sean Lewis, sees the same pro potential Bartolone sees.

“He’s a guy that has flashed early and has flashed often,” Lewis said. “He goes about his process the right way. You can tell when he does anything football related, he does it like a pro, which I think is a great thing to have. He has those daily disciplines that when he steps in between the white lines, he’s got a laser focus about him. That’s big time.”
