Deion Sanders gave the country a view into the values Colorado football will hold during the upcoming 2023 season when he chastised players for running away from their teammates during fall camp practice on August 15.

“He just fought. I saw two of y’all walking off over there and you got a teammate fighting,” Sanders prefaced before saying, “Where they do that at?! Where they do that at?!” Sanders said in a video posted to YouTube by his family’s Well Off Media account. “If one fight, we all fight! You understand that? I don’t wanna see y’all walking off when somebody’s fighting. Never again!”

According to Sports Illustrated’s Wilton Jackson, nothing about Sanders’ response was surprising.

“Sanders’s reaction to his teammates who elected to not fight does not come as a surprise,” Sanders wrote. “A few days ago, the Hall of Famer shared his thoughts on the culture of the program, indicating that he wants to win over everything else, and does not put much emphasis on whether his players ‘like each other.’

“While Sanders has previously indicated that his players are friendly, one thing is certain: if a fight breaks out, Colorado players are expected to defend their teammates, not to bypass the fight and walk off the field.”

Deion Sanders’ Colorado football values are not hard to comprehend

Many pundits who have never been in a locker room seem willing to write off just about anything Coach Prime does with his Colorado football program, but the Buffaloes’ new culture isn’t hard to comprehend.

Players have to have each other’s backs, give their all in drills, and show enthusiasm for being on the team. If not, Sanders is going to sniff out those who aren’t acquiescing and make sure they either get with the program or leave it. We’ve seen that plenty already, so each new development in Boulder shouldn’t be so shocking to everyone.
