Analyst’s over-the-top positive prediction for CU stars Shedeur Sanders, Travis Hunter
Colorado football stars Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, the top two imports from Deion Sanders’ first two recruiting classes at Jackson State, received over-the-top positive predictions for the 2023 season from College Football News’ Pete Fiutak.
“Lost in the star power of the conference’s quarterbacks is that Shedeur Sanders is a future NFL starter,” Fiutak wrote. “Travis Hunter might be the best corner in college football – when he’s not playing receiver. Those are just the headliners on a team full of Power Five starting talent. Everyone seemingly wanted to be a part of what Sanders is creating, and he’s just getting started.” Fiutak believes the group Coach Prime brought to Boulder could help the Buffaloes shock the world and start off 3-0 at TCU, against Nebraska, and against Colorado State.
“Coach Prime really did bring in the – his word – ‘dogs’ who could shock TCU and Nebraska on the way to a 3-0 start,” Fiutak prefaced before saying, “There’s the chance we’re all missing what could quickly be obvious right away – this team will be really, really fast.”
Analyst ultimately bullish on Colorado football due to schedule, Deion Sanders’ big-game failures
Fiutak was high on the individual talents of Sanders and Hunter, but not so much on the overall product Colorado football will be during the 2023 season; the last in the Pac-12 before a move to the Big 12. The College Football News writer predicted schedule issues while worrying about Coach Prime’s prior failures in big games at Jackson State.
“Colorado is starting from scratch, the overall depth isn’t there, and then there’s the biggest problem – the schedule,” Fiutak prefaced before saying, “At least before the season gets going, Colorado State and Stanford appear to be the only two games the Buffs will be favored.
“One more thing – stepping up the coaching against equal-to-better teams. Sanders did the work at Jackson State, getting talent is 90% of the college gig, and he assembled a terrific staff around him. The two Celebration Bowl losses to inferior teams is a wee bit concerning.”
There are only so many times we can throw on the “wait and see” caveat amidst all of these polarizing CU predictions inspired by Deion Sanders’ unconventional and quite controversial offseason.
But let’s wait and see if these Buffs do before we get too in-depth with season predictions.
