Colorado football offensive line coach Bill O’Boyle begrudgingly gave his game plan on how he’s dealing with the potential absence of star Jackson State transfer Tyler Brown, a projected starting OG whose status moving forward is a question mark.

“It hurts us not having Tyler. I know the NCAA deal is going on right now, if he is going to be eligible or not,” O’Boyle said on August 18 (h/t BuffStampede). “I can’t take reps from another number two right now or a number three, counting on a guy we don’t know if he is going to be there or not. I know he has gone through some mono and some other things so we’re just trying to get him healthy.” As 247Sports’ Adam Munsterteiger explains, Brown’s future is in the hands of the NCAA.

“Brown dealt with a bout of mononucleosis, and since he is a second time transfer, it remains in the hands of the NCAA whether he will get the nod to play in 2023,” Munsterteiger wrote. “Brown previously transferred from Louisiana to Jackson State. Based on the one-time transfer exemption, he needs a waiver from the NCAA to give him clearance to compete right away in Boulder.”

Colorado football OL coach is confident Tyler Brown will get better no matter what

If Brown won’t be suiting up at all for the Buffaloes during the 2023 season, O’Boyle believes the star Colorado football transfer will improve regardless due to receiving practice reps with the program.

“I know what he can bring to this whole group up front,” O’Boyle prefaced before saying, “But first things first, we have to get him healthy and we have to get him back to where he is going to be. And if he’s not eligible this fall, he can practice and he will learn. He will get better. Either way, he is going to get better out of this situation.”

The hope is that Deion Sanders builds something sustainable and gives Brown the chance to walk back into a winner in 2024 if the Jackson State star isn’t going to be in uniform during the entire upcoming campaign in Boulder.
