Ex-Colorado QB feels Coach Prime to CU bigger than Nick Saban at Alabama
Former Colorado football quarterback and current FOX Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt believes that Deion Sanders bringing “Prime Time” to Boulder is something that makes Nick Saban being hired by Alabama pale in comparison.
“There is not a more interesting coaching change that I can remember in college football,” Klatt said (h/t BuffsBeat). “Maybe (Nick) Saban by going to Alabama. But I think it even pales in comparison to this. What (Sanders) is going to be trying to do at Colorado, first of all, is totally unprecedented.”
“It’s going to work,” Klatt said about Sanders at CU. “It’s just a matter of how long it’s going to take.”
Deion Sanders’ ‘unconventional nature’ has created a ‘melting pot’ Colorado football roster
As BuffsBeat’s Nick Ferguson points out, Coach Prime has created a smorgasbord — Ferguson describes it as a melting pot — of a Colorado football roster that was born of previously unfathomable recruiting methods.
And those methods are talked about high and low, far and wide, across the college football world.
“Sanders’ unconventional nature is often talked about by supporters and critics alike,” Ferguson prefaced before saying, “It’s one of the reasons why he is Coach Prime, which is a hybrid between his player persona and mentor to his players.
“A great melting pot roster for the Buffs with over 70 new players ready to go against TCU. Colorado has become a hot topic as one of the most popular programs in the country. Sanders is building a top-tier team in one of the most unlikely reboot scenarios in a short amount of time.”
Sportsbooks are hoping to capitalize on myriad negative media coverage of the Buffs, but betting against Coach Prime has rarely been a winning strategy across Sanders’ playing careers across multiple sports, and in the past two years in particular, his coaching career as well.
