Deion Sanders was praised by fellow first-year head coach Matt Rhule, who returns to the Power Five ranks with Nebraska in 2023 after making a name for himself at Baylor, for bringing Colorado football into the national spotlight — and taking some of the shine from the SEC in the process.

“I’ll be honest with you: I’ve followed it from afar, you know, because they do such a good job of filming everything,” Rhule prefaced before saying, “I think it’s good for football right now. College football can’t just be, like, in the southeast and a couple of schools in the north. It’s got to be what Lincoln (Riley) is doing at USC, what Coach Sanders is doing in Colorado, hopefully what we’re doing in the middle of the country. Like, this has to be a nationwide thing. You can tell that Deion and his staff? They’re going to recruit relentlessly and they’re gonna they’re gonna have their team ready to play.”

The last four College Football Playoff National Championship winners were from the SEC but including Clemson, the southeast accounts for every title since Ohio State won the first CFP in 2014. The SEC has a stranglehold on the spotlight right now, but Coach Prime’s rapid rebuild in Boulder has been too entertaining for the masses to ignore.

Matt Rhule excited that Nebraska facing Deion Sanders’ Colorado football program is a premiere game again

Rhule, who now understands the power of Big Red Nation, spoke to the excitement he has about the Nebraska-Colorado football rivalry making a return to relevancy.

“It’ll be a great, great game,” said Rhule. “To think that Nebraska vs. Colorado is relevant again, will be on national TV? I think that’s pretty cool for the game.”

Cool indeed, especially since Coach Prime and Ralphie will be teaming up for their first run together in what should bring teary eyes to the Folsom Field faithful.
