Star Colorado football offensive lineman transfer Tyler Brown spoke out on his denied immediate eligibility waiver — as per BuffZone, the NCAA allows athletes a one-time transfer exception without sitting out a year of competition but second-time undergraduate transfers must submit a waiver request to avoid sitting out a season — in a video released on his Youtube page on August 25.

“My mental health appeal wasn’t a made up scenario to justify me coming to Colorado to play,” Brown said (h/t HBCU Gameday). “I’ve struggled with my mental health my entire life. I’ve been going to therapy and on antidepressants as well as anxiety medication since I was 18 years old. It’s nothing I’m ashamed of or hide from.

“There are some days I don’t even wanna leave my apartment and just isolate. Football has always been the largest tool in helping me through my struggles and not having that hurts. But, I will continue to push through and find a way every single day to be the best Tyler Brown I can be. This is a call to action.”

Star Colorado football transfer Tyler Brown’s denied immediate eligibility waiver a ‘huge blow’ for Bill O’Boyle

Colorado football OL coach and run game coordinator Bill O’Boyle reportedly expected to have Brown back and suffered a “huge blow” in hearing that he won’t have the Jackson State star until the 2024 season.

“Brown played last season under Coach Prime at JSU, earning First-team All-SWAC honors,” the BuffsBeat staff prefaced before saying, “The mighty offensive lineman, who’s considered the strongest player on CU’s roster, originally started his career at Louisiana in 2019. A huge blow for Brown and CU offensive line coach Bill O’ Boyle, who was expecting the NCAA would return some positive news.”

O’Boyle had previously discussed how “it hurts” not having Brown in fall camp.

“It hurts us not having Tyler — I know the NCAA deal is going on right now, if he is going to be eligible or not,” O’Boyle said on August 18 (h/t BuffStampede). “I can’t take reps from another number two right now or a number three, counting on a guy we don’t know if he is going to be there or not. I know he has gone through some mono and some other things so we’re just trying to get him healthy.”
