Former Colorado football quarterback Joel Klatt blasted the NCAA’s supposed hypocritical stance on mental health with the organization’s decision to deny Jackson State transfer OL Tyler Brown immediate eligibility for the 2023 season — and he did not hold back in the slightest.

“At the NCAA, they care to claim about the mental health of the athletes, but they sure aren’t showing that in his case,” Klatt said (h/t Ralphie Report). “How does this get denied Unfortunately, the NCAA as it relates to their mission statement, is the worst organization I can think of. Their mission statement is to be there for the well-being of the student-athlete, to protect the student-athlete, and what it’s morphed into is a governing body that has rules and regulations that are specifically to contain the student-athlete.”

Go off, Mr. Klatt. Brown has transferred twice, requiring a waiver from the NCAA, but the organization must be aware of the death of a teammate at Louisiana-Lafayette in front of him as well as his recent admission of depression.

Tyler Brown on his mental health struggles and Colorado football future

Brown has vowed to be the best version of himself every day and keep himself ready for when he can suit up for the Colorado football program; sharing as much via his YouTube page on August 25.

“My mental health appeal wasn’t a made up scenario to justify me coming to Colorado to play,” Brown said (h/t HBCU Gameday). “I’ve struggled with my mental health my entire life. I’ve been going to therapy and on antidepressants as well as anxiety medication since I was 18 years old. It’s nothing I’m ashamed of or hide from.

“There are some days I don’t even wanna leave my apartment and just isolate. Football has always been the largest tool in helping me through my struggles and not having that hurts. But, I will continue to push through and find a way every single day to be the best Tyler Brown I can be. This is a call to action.”

Here’s to Brown doing great things in Boulder when the NCAA allows him to.
