Shunned Colorado transfer’s message on new coaching staff’s non-recruitment
Colorado football transfer and current Wisconsin tight end Tucker Ashcraft spoke out on Deion Sanders’ first-year coaching staff’s non-recruitment of the Karl Dorrell recruiting find for the 2022 class — condemning them for the lack of contact ahead of the mutual decision for Ashcraft to find a new home.
“Two weeks before Deion came, one of the recruiting guys reached out and was like, ‘You’re a Prime type of guy,'” Ashcraft said (h/t The Athletic’s Jesse Temple). “And after that, no contact, no nothing. They showed up. No one reached out to me.
“I talked with the current recruiting staff that was there. They told me they wanted to keep me. Then they were like, ‘You know, this thing is kind of getting out of control. You should go look at other options.’ I was kind of already doing that. And (the new staff) never reached out to me and I was fine with that. They didn’t even tell me. They didn’t want me and I was like, ‘Fine, I’ll leave.'”
Deion Sanders shows up for inbound Colorado football transfer after TCU win
While the talking heads tend to paint Coach Prime in a negative light, there is more than enough proof that he shows love to the players he does commit to; with the latest example being Deion Sanders getting on the phone with inbound Colorado football transfer WR Jimmy Horn Jr.’s father.
“One of the best moments that I had on Saturday, Jimmy was getting on the plane and he said, ‘Hey, Man, my pops, I got perfect timing, my pops is on the phone,’” Sanders told CBS News Colorado’s Romi Bean, during a segment of the ‘Coach Prime’s Playbook’ show (h/t Footballscoop). “And you know Jimmy’s pop is incarcerated. But, just to have a conversation with his father, and his father said, ‘You told us you were going to take care of him, you were going to look out for him,’ and his father was so happy and elated.”
Sanders can come off as cruel, but the results on the field are going to outlive the headlines; which are manipulated against Coach Prime to begin with.
