Auburn transfer Tar’Varish Dawson is “shining in his new role” with the Colorado football program according to Auburn Daily’s Lance Dawe after being largely ignored while with the Tigers — this after a 49 all-purpose-yard, one touchdown day against Nebraska on September 9.

“During and following Bryan Harsin’s tenure at Auburn,a plethora of players entered into the transfer portal, scattering across college football,” Dawe prefaced before saying, “One ended up committing to Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes and is now shining in a new role – speedy wide receiver Tar’Varish Dawson.

“Dawson, like many Auburn players who entered the transfer portal, seemed to struggle at times from lack of proper usage. The difference between Dawson and several other Tigers was the fact that he was hardly used – when he was, it wasn’t effective.”

Colorado football QB Shedeur Sanders and Coach Prime on Tar’Varish Dawson

Shedeur Sanders, the overperforming Buffaloes quarterback who has an NIL valuation of over $4 million as of September 12, told Dawson ahead of CU’s 36-14 blowout of Nebraska that Week 2 was going to be his day before throwing him his first touchdown of the season with 2:35 left in the first half.

“Chick knew his time was coming and he told me, ‘I got you, bro,'” Sanders said of Dawson, aka “Chick” in Boulder (h/t BuffZone). “I worked with him over and over and over, so now he got the exact look that we wanted and he did what he was supposed to do.”

Coach Prime called Dawson his homeboy from his hometown, Fort Myers, and lauded the attention to detail from “chick.”

“Chick has really been in the playbook,” Deion Sanders said. “He’s a Fort Myers (Florida) boy, so you know I have a vested interest in him. I wanted to see him do well. He’s my homeboy coming from the hometown.”

Dawson won’t be featured with Xavier Weaver, Travis Hunter, and Jimmy Horn Jr. (in that order) ahead of him on the wideout totem pole, but the former Auburn Tiger will still be able to have his moments in the sun with Sanders having his back in Boulder.
