Shilo Sanders showed shades of “Prime Time” with a pick-six against Colorado State in Week 3’s Rocky Mountain Showdown on September 16 — taking a Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi pass back 80 yards to the house.

Like father, like son. Donning the No. 21, a number made famous by his father Deion Sanders, Shilo got the interception he had hunted for two minutes prior to the first score of the in-state rivalry game. Prior to the season, it was unknown if Sanders would even start.

“All of the scholarship safeties on Colorado’s roster, sans true freshman Jaden Milliner-Jones, have started at the college level,” 247Sports’ Adam Munsterteiger prefaced on August 1 before saying, “So, defensive coordinator and safeties coach Charles Kelly is faced with a good problem. It is especially good to have the problem at safety, where injuries can mount up, and at a position where targeting issues can factor in. Shilo Sanders, Trevor Woods, Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig, Myles Slusher, Rodrick Ward, Travis Jay and Vito Tisdale all came to Boulder to start. Even Alabama transfer Jahquez Robinson could factor in at safety. May the best men win.”

Eventually, Sanders is both a starter and a difference-maker for the Buffs.

Shilo Sanders’ response to Jay Norvell’s shot at Coach Prime

Shilo stuck up for his dad in response to Jay Norvell’s potshot at Coach Prime by dismissing the comment and questioning “why they do this to themselves every week” in reference to every opponent giving the Buffs ammunition ahead of their matchup.

To Colorado State’s credit, they responded well with two turnovers, including a Shedeur Sanders interception, and one touchdown resulting from them in the first quarter of the Rocky Mountain Showdown.
