Motive revealed for analyst’s Coach Prime potshot
SiriusXM Radio host and former NFL/AFL quarterback Danny Kanell launched an attack on Coach Prime during Week 3’s Rocky Mountain Showdown matchup between Colorado State and Colorado at Folsom Field on September 16.
“Imagine that,” Kanell prefaced before saying, “Appears Jay Norvell was spending the week studying film and game planning instead of doing interviews and selling sunglasses.”
Sheesh. It sure sounds like Kanell has a personal problem with Deion Sanders for one reason or another.
Luckily, the RedditCFB X account was able to clearly illustrate the exact reason why Kanell would say such a thing.
“25 years ago this Thursday, Deion Sanders had a pick six on Giants QB Danny Kanell to seal the game on MNF,” the account prefaced before saying, “Kanell would later be benched and never became an NFL starter again. Kanell was benched that season after a 3-7 record and later cut by the team. He bounced around a few places and made a handful of starts due to injury to the starting QBs during the remaining few years of his career.”
Danny Kanell may have another personal vendetta against Coach Prime
The rabbit hole goes even deeper between Kanell and Coach Prime, as BuffsBeat’s Josh Tolle recapped. Both Sanders and Kanell, as Tolle notes, are former Noles. The Florida State rift the school seemingly has with Coach Prime could be another reason why the ex-QB/analyst and ex-CB/WR/Buffs coach don’t get along.
“Kanell changed his tone towards the end of the game, but this isn’t the first time the two have gotten into it,” Tolle prefaced before saying, “The former QB decided to take a shot at Deion for saying he wasn’t a ‘Nole in an off-season press conference. Sanders responded by telling Kanell to ‘stay out of grown folks business’ about him not fully claiming FSU.”
Sanders knows he’s going to have his haters. Kanell is one of the easier ones to understand, at least.
