Danny Kanell released a poll on Twitter/X asking the public whether or not Colorado football fans should have stormed the field as a 24-point betting favorite after CU’s double-overtime Rocky Mountain Showdown victory over Colorado State on September 16 in Boulder — and Terrell Owens went after the SiriusXM host and former NFL quarterback for it, slamming Kanell for not being nearly as good as Buffs QB Shedeur Sanders in the process.

“Typical of you to say something like this,” Owens wrote. “Should you be worried about why and the way student body celebrates a 4th qtr, 11-pt deficit to come back and win the game?! Hell yeh they should storm the field to celebrate the VICTORY!!! So what they were favorited by 24 points, TCU was 21 point favorites and they lost! A WIN is a WIN!! Shedeur is a better QB than you and will have a better professional than you too!!” This prompted a weak response from Kanell denying that his poll wasn’t a direct insinuation that what Colorado’s fans did in storming the field was worthy of clowning.

“Damn u just go around looking for beefs on here? I asked a question that I didn’t even answer,” Kanell responded to Owens. “I actually have no problem whatsoever with a program that’s been irrelevant for 30 years to storm the field after a win like that. If they had won by 28 it would have been weird but in 2OT??? Have at it”

Colorado football fans deserved to storm the field after Rocky Mountain Showdown win

The circumstances of CU’s victory over CSU absolutely warranted a field-storming from Buffs fans. Losing Travis Hunter seemed like a death knell, and watching Sanders show more heroic poise in a close game, just as he did in a Week 1 win over TCU, was remarkably inspiring.

That was an unforgettable moment for University of Colorado students and all Buffs fans in attendance and at home. Regardless of whether or not Kanell thought it was cringe, that memory will persist in Boulder, and in Fort Collins, forever.
