Colorado hiring seven-time Pro Bowl DL would be a ‘huge bonus’
Colorado football hiring seven-time NFL Pro Bowler and Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp in 2024 would be a “huge bonus” — presumably metaphorically and physically as the old sportswriting cliche goes — for defensive recruits says Buffaloes Wire’s Matt Wadleigh.
“If Sapp does join Colorado’s coaching staff next year, that would be a huge bonus for defensive players thinking of coming to Boulder, as if having Coach Prime wasn’t already a big enough pull,” Wadleigh wrote. During a September 19 appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Sapp gushed about Colorado’s defensive line recruits as he made his public pitch to get in on the “Prime Time” Buffs.
“For the first time in my life, I was loved on by some defensive lineman,” Sapp told host Rich Eisen. “They wanted to know the keys to the vault. I’ve never had anybody shake my pockets like that and ask for keys to the vault.”

Coach Prime making Colorado football the home team for players around the country
The scene in Boulder, Colorado on September 16 at Folsom Field with Colorado State in town was unfathomable. Rappers, movie stars, and athletes from all over the country across multiple sports were there cheering on Colorado football as if that was their home team.
Sapp wanting in on coaching, but only to join Coach Prime, shows that one’s alma mater is no longer the dream job for many former players. That’s certainly not the case for Deion Sanders himself, considering the apparent beef he has with Florida State.
The current dream job in college football is coaching the Buffs. And that certainly was not the case as CU stumbled to a 1-11 finish in 2022.
It’s unclear if Sapp will get what he wants considering the long line of coaches with the same prospective goal. But no matter who joins Sanders in Colorado next year, they will bring an extra layer of credibility to a program that’s already teeming with it.
