Colorado football could see “even more effort” from their Week 6 and Week 7 opponents, Arizona State and Stanford, according to Mike Farrell of Mike Farrell Sports — who would use Colorado State’s one-score loss in an instant classic Rocky Mountain Showdown, the increased hype Oregon had to produce to steal the media hype ahead of a 42-6 blowout win over the Buffs, and Caleb Williams awareness somehow rising even higher ahead of Week 5 as his evidence that CU may just be every team’s Super Bowl now.

“Now teams like Arizona State and Stanford, who both suck, have to look at the Colorado game as their best chance for a spotlight, and you know they will give even more effort than against a ‘normal’ coach,” Farrell prefaced before saying, “This is the way it will be forever as long as Deion is the head coach at Colorado. Some may say this is great as his team always needs to be prepared, but ask teams like Alabama, UGA, and in the NFL teams like the Kansas City Chiefs. An off-game can easily turn into a loss against a team with little to lose and a lot to gain.”

Certainly, both ASU and Stanford could afford to find extra motivation this season beyond the downright horrifying history both could make in Pac-12 play during the 2023 season…

Colorado football Week 6 and Week 7 opponents could be heading for infamy

The Mercury News’ Jon Wilner covered the specific possibility that the next two Colorado football opponents, Arizona State and Stanford, could both end up winless in conference play during the 2023 season.

“Two weeks into conference play, the pecking order at the bottom of the Pac-12 standings has more clarity than the hierarchy at the top,” Wilner prefaced before saying, “For various reasons — some far beyond their control — Stanford and Arizona State have staked early claim to the cellar in a rugged conference that offers few opportunities to change that fate. Will either finish 0-9? Could both finish 0-9?”

With that, the pressure is now on Colorado not to lose to either team, whose expectations are both as low as possible.

Luckily, though, this Buffs team rarely seems to feel pressure. Playing in the “Prime Time” spotlight will do that to you.
