Is Travis Hunter playing vs Arizona State? Latest injury update
The question of whether or not Travis Hunter is playing, for the third week in a row, is no. In fact, Hunter is not only tabbed to miss the Buffs’ Week 6 matchup with Arizona State in Tempe but against Stanford in Week 7 as well ahead of Colorado’s bye week.
“As he should, head coach Deion Sanders is playing it safe with two-way star Travis Hunter, who suffered a lacerated liver during Colorado’s Week 3 game against Colorado State on Sept. 16,” Buffaloes Wire’s Jack Carlough reported.
“The injury was initially expected to keep him sidelined for three weeks but on Tuesday, Coach Prime said that he’d like Hunter to sit through the bye week, setting up a return for Oct. 28 at UCLA.”
With Travis Hunter out, is Shilo Sanders also not playing vs Arizona State?
Luckily, the Buffaloes likely won’t be missing Coach Prime’s son Shilo Sanders, who returned to practice along with Myles Slusher, for a second straight week after an injury suffered during the 42-6 loss to Oregon in Week 5. According to Deion Sanders, his son’s kidney injury caused him to urinate blood; making the decision to bench him against USC an easy one.
Of course, Shilo’s injury wasn’t the only headline to come from Colorado’s first loss of the season; a rock-bottom pitfall against a Ducks squad that completely outclassed them from kickoff to the final whistle. Before the September 23 matchup in Eugene, Sanders had a viral rant caught by cameras — one that aged incredibly poorly given the results of the game.
Regardless of those threats, Sanders has been one of Colorado’s most active defenders, and his presence in the CU secondary has been sorely missed. If he does return against Arizona State, whoever emerges from a banged-up quarterback room will be facing stouter opposition, even if the Buffs pass coverage did improve in the second half against the Trojans.
