Accusation against Colorado star stat-padding ‘nothing short of absurd’
Accusations against Colorado football star Shedeur Sanders for stat-padding by taking sacks instead of throwing the ball away — this to keep his completion percentage high at the expense of his offensive line — are “nothing short of absurd” according to OutKick’s Mark Harris.
“We do live in a day and age where we pick apart every statistic and number imaginable – and the same goes for NFL scouts studying Sanders,” Harris prefaced before saying, “But suggesting he’s holding onto the ball instead of throwing it away to save a few completion percentage points is nothing short of absurd.”
A Pac-12 coach, one who wasn’t willing to attach his name, was the one behind the accusations.
“I think they want to rack up some stats for Shedeur,” the anonymous assistant coach told The Athletic. “He really holds on to the ball a long time. I think he takes sacks because he doesn’t want to affect his completion percentage. He’s playing a little different than he did earlier in the season. Before he showed that he was willing to step up and escape through the B-gaps. Now, he’s retreating more.”
Colorado football discourse has nosedived off the cliff of sanity in 2023
Between those looking to tear Coach Prime’s program down at all costs, and the flip side, those looking to defend the Buffs in a wholly unbelievable way, the discourse for Colorado football has nosedived off the cliff of sanity in 2023.
Never before has Boulder had this much attention, but never before has a college football team inspired such leftfield takes from those looking to capitalize off the “Prime Time” spotlight as well. With USC and Oregon now in the rearview, and those games being losses for Colorado, the peak of irresponsible Buffs takes might just be past us.
But, unfortunately, it may just be starting.
