Those on Twitter during and after Stanford’s stunning second-half comeback that led to a double-overtime victory over Colorado football were furious Coach Prime chose not to bench Carter Stoutmire, who struggled as Cardinal quarterback Ashton Daniels lit up the Buffs secondary, for Cormani McClain.

“Listen… Cormani McClain needs to start, I (don’t) want to hear s*** else about being late for meetings,” one angry poster wrote in all caps. “The way the defense played you’d think they missed all the damn meetings, s***!”

“(Stoutmire) was the offensive MVP for Stanford tonight,” another poster wrote. “Come on Deion Sanders, you HAVE TO bench a player when they play this bad. Colorado choked, threw up, then choked again in an EXTREMELY winnable game tonight. And all he had to do was play Cormani McClain.”

“Prime cooked himself,” one poster prefaced before saying, “Didn’t play Cormani Mcclain or Omarion Miller — Miller (was) lowkey the reason they won the last two games but (they) got put to the side for Travis Hunter’s comeback.”

“If I’m Cormani McClain I’m in the transfer portal tomorrow,” another poster wrote. “I understand hard coaching but what Deion is doing to that kid is down right blasphemous.”

Colorado football analyst on Cormani McClain before USC game: ‘Might be looking elsewhere’

It wasn’t long ago that McClain was thought to be looking elsewhere for his 2024 college football home. BuffsBeat’s Josh Tolle wrote as much on September 27; just days before McClain’s breakout game against USC.

“Sanders got McClain as the highest-ranked player in CU’s 2023 recruiting class,” Tolle prefaced before saying, “He originally committed to Miami, but wanted to follow in Prime’s footsteps as a ‘generational talent.’ McClain is also listed a top ten all-time defensive back from Lakeland HS in Florida, but might be looking elsewhere by the tone of his comments.”

If CU’s season continues to descend and McClain continues to ride the pine and see limited snaps, it’s not hard to imagine him jumping in the portal.
