During the October 14 season premiere of Saturday Night Live, social media lost it in all sorts of ways over Kenan Thompson’s impersonation of Coach Prime; one in which the actor took aim at Colorado’s defense and joked that Deion Sanders went home during halftime of the Buffs’ stunning double-overtime loss to Stanford and woke up to the 46-43 result.

“Yo, this deserves an Academy Award — haven’t seen an SNL skit this good in about a decade, well done,” wrote one poster who noted the precipitous decline of the show in the last decade since the days of Jason Sudeikis, Bill Hader, Fred Amison, Kristen Wiig, Will Forte, and Andy Samberg.

“Excuse me?!?!? There was an SNL skit about Coach Prime?? What timeline are we living in where the Buffs are relevant enough to be on Saturday Night Live???” asked one flabbergasted poster who couldn’t believe Colorado could ever be in such a spotlight.

“It’s only halfway through the first episode of the season but Kenan as Coach Prime will be a top moment of the season and hard to top,” said an SNL appreciator.

“Kenan Thompson hit this outta the park!” exclaimed a satisfied SNL viewer.

“Kenan takes Coach Prime to a new level on SNL,” one Thompson fan prefaced before saying, “Only Kenan. Nailed it.”

Coach Prime effect has reached the masses all season

Whether it’s SNL, 60 Minutes, or Time, Deion Sanders ain’t hard to find.

While many college football fans are likely at a quota for Coach Prime coverage they can handle for the season — or perhaps for the rest of time –, the fact of the matter is that Sanders will be a fixture in not only sports coverage but across the entertainment industry for as long as he is at the Power Five level.

And Buffs fans need to cherish that for as long as it lasts in Boulder.
